03-5539-6895 is a number widely reported as a scam call in which the caller poses as Tokyo Gas and pressures payment of an unpaid electricity bill. It is not a legitimate Tokyo Gas phone number.
Reported tactics
- The caller claims, "This is Tokyo Gas. Your electricity bill is overdue," and rushes you to pay
- You are told to buy prepaid cards at a convenience store or transfer money to a designated account
- Threatening language is used: "If you don't pay today, your electricity will be cut off"
- The caller tries to extract personal information (address, name, bank-account number)
Tokyo Gas warns on its official website that it does not pursue overdue electricity bills by phone. If you do have an unpaid bill, you will receive a written notice.
